Results of the Civil Services (Main) Examination 2008 have been announced. Based on the results of the written part of the Examination, held by the Union Public Service Commission in October-November, 2008 and the interviews for Personality Test held in March-April, 2009, candidates have been recommended for appointment to the Indian Administrative Service; Indian Foreign Service; Indian Police Service and Central Services, Group ‘A’ and Group ‘B’.

A total number of 791 candidates have been recommended for appointment including 364 General (including 13 Physically Challenged candidates), 236 Other Backward Classes (including 07 Physically Challenged candidates), 130 Scheduled Castes and 61 Scheduled Tribes candidates.

The number of vacancies reported by the Government for the Indian Administrative Service is 120 (60 General, 33 Other Backward Classes, 17 Scheduled Castes and 10 Scheduled Tribes); for the Indian Foreign Service is 26 (13 General, 08 Other Backward Classes, 04 Scheduled Castes and 01 Scheduled Tribe); for the Indian Police Service is 130 (65 General, 36 Other Backward Classes, 20 Scheduled Castes and 09 Scheduled Tribes); for the Central Services Group ‘A’ is 546 (282 General, 146 Other Backward Classes, 81 Scheduled Castes and 37 Scheduled Tribes) and for Central Services Group ‘B’ is 59 ( 34 General, 13 Other Backward Classes, 08 Scheduled Castes and 04 Scheduled Tribes). This includes 20 vacancies for Physically Challenged candidates.

In accordance with Rule 16 (4) & (5) of the Civil Services Examination Rules 2008, the Commission is maintaining a consolidated Reserve List of 180 candidates which includes 90 General, 74 Other Backward Classes, 11 Scheduled Castes and 05 Scheduled Tribes candidates ranking in order of merit below the last recommended candidate under respective category.
UPSC has a “Facilitation Counter” near Examination Hall in its campus. Candidates can obtain any information / clarification regarding their examinations / recruitments during working hours in person or over telephone Nos. 23385271 / 23381125 / 23098543.

Appointment to the various services will be made according to the number of vacancies available with due consideration to the provisions contained in Rules 2 and 19 of the Rules of the Examination and subject to the final decision of the Supreme Court / High Court / C.A.Ts. on the S.L.Ps. / R.As/ W.Ps. O.As. pending therein.

Important highlights of Civil Services Exam 2008

A total number of 3,18,843 candidates applied for this examination. 1,67,035 candidates appeared for the Preliminary examination. 11,849 candidates qualified for the Main written examination held in October-November, 2008. 2140 candidates were selected for the Personality Test conducted in March-April, 2009. The successful candidates include 625 male and 166 female candidates.
Miss Shubhra Saxena (Roll No.159306), has topped the Examination. She has done B.Tech from IIT, Roorkeee. This is her 2nd attempt. The second ranker is Miss Sharandeep Kaur Brar (Roll No.307085). She has done M.A. from Punjab University.
Mr.Varinder Kumar Sharma (Roll No.170034), is the topper among male candidates. He has secured overall 4th rank. He has done B.E. from Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh. This is his first attempt. Incidentally, Shri Sharma is a physically challenged candidate.
The top 25 candidates include 15 males and 10 females. Educational qualification-wise they comprise of 12 candidates belonging to Commerce, Mangement, Humanities, Science & Social Sciences; 9 candidates belonging to Engineering and 4 candidates belonging to Medical Science background.
Of these, 22 took the Examination in English medium; 2 in Hindi medium and 1 in Punjab medium. Of the top 25 candidates, 11 appeared from Delhi; 3 each from Chandigarh and Chennai; 2 each from Bhopal and Hyderabad and 1 each from Kolkata, Jaipur, Jammu and Thiruvananthapuram centers.

Department of Management Studies ( DMS)

The 2 year (4 semesters) full time master’s degree program in business administration prepares
students for a successful professional career in management. While the first year is devoted to
foundational course, the second year would enable the student to gain breadth and depth of different
areas and specialize in the elective fields.

The course structure of the MBA program comprises of basic and specialized functional areas
such as quantitative techniques, organizational behavior and management process. Other subjects
of comprehensive cross functional nature, in-house training in industrial organizations through
various project requirements, dissertations, and factory visits are also the part of the curriculum.
The evaluation of the student is on the basis of their performance in assignments, participation in
departmental activities, projects, tests, class presentations, quizzes, case-studies and end semester
examinations.

To apply for the course, you must have appeared for CAT 2008. The applicants who appeared for CAT November
2008 and who are graduates (10+2+3/4/5 Pattern) with a minimum average of 50% marks in part
three in case of arts and science degrees /in applicable years of engineering or other professional degrees in
any discipline of recognized universities in India or Abroad. Including those who are applying for the final
year degree examination in April-may 2008 are eligible to apply for MBA program of DMS-SOM. However,
if selected at the time of admission, they have to produce their course completion certificate along
with the degree or provisional degree certificate in original, for having qualified .Some grace period may
be allowed by the university to submit the required certificates in exceptional areas.

Selection
Candidates who are shortlisted on the basis of CAT 2007 scores will be called for group discussion
and personal interview to Pondicherry. Those finally selected on the basis of performance in CAT 2007
group discussion and personal interview will be intimated individually and the same information will
be posted in university website. Foreign students need to appear only for personal interview. Foreign
students must, however, have to get their application routed through the ministry of human resources
development.
The NRI students can directly apply to the department of management studies and depending on the number of
applications and allotted seats, the department will decide the selection procedure which will be applicable to NRI
candidates. Only such candidates who have their parents abroad (No sponsorship from any other relative will be
considered as NRI) and willing to pay all the fees in dollar terms will be considered as NRI candidate for the
purpose of admission in this category.

presentation and a case study discussion with other interview candidates led by a professor. This interview

The Question Paper will be fully objective type with multiple options as answers to each question. The standard of paper in engineering subjects will be that of Engineering Examination of an Indian University.

However, there would be no separate time fixed for attempting the separate sections.

Minimum qualifying standards

BSNL shall fix minimum qualifying marks for OC/OBC/SC/ST/PH candidates for each section

as well as in the aggregate. Candidates obtaining less than minimum-qualifying marks in any of the sections or in aggregate shall not be considered for inclusion in the merit-list.

The merit-list will be drawn up on the basis of candidates’ performance in the exam and the number of vacancies. The appearance of the name in the merit-list does not confer any right to the candidate for employment. A final call letter/appointment letter will be issued to the candidate after completion of all other formalities.

Choice of Examination Centre

Applicants are required to indicate their choice of Examination Centre [item 15] of application form] at which they wish to appear. An applicant can opt for any one of the examination centers out of the Circles indicated in the Annexure 'A' and submit the application form to the Office of the CGM of the Circle concerned at whose examination centre the applicant wishes to appear. (e.g. a candidate wishing to appear at Hyderabad centre should submit his/her application to the DGM/G.M.(Admn), Office of Chief General Manager, Andhra Pradesh). A list of centers and the Deputy General Managers/General Managers to whom the application is to be submitted, is given in Annexure “A”.

Admit cards will be issued to eligible applicants by the Office of the CGM concerned. The examination centre will be the Circle Headquarters city of the CGM concerned as given in Annexure ‘A’.

Fee for examination and application form

The specimen of the application form is included in this advertisement. Neatly typed [only on one side of paper] copy in A4 size [30 cms. X 20 cms.] may be used for making application. The completed application form should be sent by Registered post to the CGM concerned. The envelope containing application form should be marked “Application for J.T.Os(Telecom) Examination-2008” OR “Application for J.T.Os (Civil) Examination-2008” OR “Application for J.T.Os(Electrical) Examination-2008”, as the case may be, in bold letters on top of the envelope.

Original advertisement or photocopy of the format in the advertisement must not be used for applying and in case a candidate submits such an application the same will not be entertained. The given application format must be separately typed.

An examination fee of Rs.750/-(Rupees Seven Hundred and fifty only) is payable in the form of demand draft drawn in favour of Senior Accounts Officer/Accounts Officer payable at the respective stations as given in Annexure ‘A’. The amount of fee shall not be accepted in any other form. Fees once paid shall NOT be refunded under any circumstances nor can it be held in reserve for any other examination or selection.

No Fee payable by SC/ST/PH

Applicants belonging to SC/ST/PH categories only are exempted from the examination fee. In the case of Physically handicapped candidates, this exemption will, however, be available to only those handicapped persons who would otherwise be eligible for appointment to the post on the basis of the standards of medical fitness prescribed for the post (including any concessions specifically extended to the physically handicapped) and who enclose with the application form, a necessary certificate from a Govt. Hospital/Medical Board in support of his claim for being handicapped.

Travelling Allowance to SC/ST Candidates

The applicants belonging to SC/ST categories will be entitled to T.A. as per provisions of Ministry of Finance(Deptt. of Expenditure) O.M. No.19014/3/77-E.IV (B) dtd. 17.02.1978.

Closing date for receipt of Application Forms

Application forms complete in every respect must reach on or before 06.04.2009. Applications received after the closing date or not accompanied by the demand draft [wherever applicable] for the prescribed examination fee or incomplete in any respect shall be summarily rejected and no communication in respect of the rejected application forms shall be entertained. Fees paid shall also NOT be refunded. BSNL shall not be responsible for any postal delay.

The applicants would be admitted to the examination on the basis of the information furnished by them in their application form. They are, therefore, advised to ensure that they fulfill all eligibility conditions before applying. In case it is found at a later stage that the information furnished by an applicant is false or an applicant does not fulfill any of the eligibility conditions, the candidature of such applicants would be cancelled and no correspondence in this regard would be entertained. Issuance of an admit card for the examination will NOT confer any right for appointment. Appointment will be solely subject to fulfillment of all eligibility conditions.

Training and Bond

All candidates provisionally recruited shall execute Bonds in the format specified by the BSNL indicating their willingness to serve the Circle allotted and Corporation for a period of at least 5 years from the date of their appointment as JTOs. All candidates shall, before their appointment as JTOs have to successfully undergo prescribed training as per the training plan laid down and amended by the Company from time to time.

a. Three identical passport size photographs out of which one should be pasted (not stapled or pinned) on the application form, duly attested, and the other two attached to the application (not to be pasted or attested)

II. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION (as on 01.01.2009)

(A) RURAL DEVELOPMENT BANKING SERVICE (RDBS)
Grade ‘A’ (Assistant Manager)
Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree or equivalent qualification in any subject
from any recognised University with a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate (means
total marks obtained by the applicant in all the papers of the examination held by
the concerned university) or its equivalent grade. SC/ST applicants with graduate
degree with a minimum 45% in aggregate (means total marks obtained by the
applicant in all the papers of the examination held by the concerned university) or
equivalent qualification are eligible to apply.

In the interview, weightage may be given to the applicants having Post-graduate
degree or specialisation in the area of management, agriculture, agri-business,
rural development, economics, engineering (agri, civil, electrical, mechanical), IT,
finance, forestry, animal husbandry, fisheries, soil sciences, etc.
Knowledge of computer operations is desirable.

III. AGE (as on 01.01.2009)

Between 21 and 28 years for graduates (i.e. Applicants must have been born not
earlier than 02-01-1981 and not later than 01-01-1988) and between 21 and 30 years
for post-graduates (i.e., applicants must have been born not earlier than 02-01-1979
and not later than 01-01-1988 ).

RELAXATION IN UPPER AGE LIMIT: Upper age limit is relaxable by -
(a) 03 years in case of eligible OBC applicants and
(b) a maximum of 05 years in case of : (i) Applicants belonging to SC/ST,
(ii) Ex-employees of banking institutions whose services had to be terminated
for reasons of economy measures or as a result of the bank going into
liquidation (iii) personnel retrenched from Govt. Offices after at least one
year’s service (iv) Ex-servicemen (including Emergency Commissioned
Officers/Short Service Commissioned Officers) provided that the applicants
have rendered at least five years continuous Military Service and have been
released on completion of assignment (including those whose assignment is due
to be completed within one year) otherwise than by way of dismissal or
discharge on account of misconduct or inefficiency or on account of physical
disability or have been released on account of physical disability attributable to
Military Service or on invalidment, (v) Emergency Commissioned Officers/Short
Service Commissioned Officers who have completed their initial period of
assignment of five years of Military Service but whose assignment has been
extended beyond five years and in whose case, on selection, the Ministry of
Defence issues certificates that they would be released within 03 months from
the date of receipt of offer of appointment, (vi) Applicants who had ordinarily
been domiciled in Kashmir Division of the State of Jammu and Kashmir during
the period 01 January 1980 to 31 December 1989 (vii) Children/family members
of victims died in the 1984 riots.
(c) 10 years for PWD (General); 13 years for PWD (OBC) and 15 years for
PWD (SC/ST) applicants.

NOTE: NO CUMULATIVE AGE RELAXATION WILL BE AVAILABLE TO ANY APPLICANT,
SAVE AS PROVIDED ABOVE.

Mode of Payment
For making payment of fees, postal and banking charges the applicants are required
to log in through our website i.e www.nabard.org and fill up the Format of Challan
available in Payment Option. The Challan which will have 3 parts may be printed by
the applicant and submitted at any branch of State Bank of India alongwith the
required amount of fees as indicated above in cash. Applicants must ensure that on
deposit of money, the branch retains Bank’s copy and the balance two copies, i.e.,
Applicant’s copy and NABARD’s copy are returned to the applicant with the
undernoted details :
(i) Journal number (7-10 digits) to be provided by the branch (ii) Branch name (iii)
Branch code number and (iv) Date of deposit

V. HOW TO APPLY:

The eligible applicants are required to apply online through website
www.nabard.org. No other means/ mode of application will be acceptable. The
application form should be filled in English only. Option for the use of Hindi language
will be available for the Written Test/ Interview.
Before registering their application on the website, candidates are required to
download the format of the challan, fill it up, deposit the prescribed application fee
in cash at any branch of State Bank of India and get receipt from the branch.

The advertisement for recruitment of Executive Trainee 2009 batch will be issued in the 3^rd week of January-2009. Eligible candidates will have to undergo a Selection Test tentatively scheduled in the middle of April’2009. The short listed candidates shall appear for Group Discussion and Personal Interview in the month of June / July’2009. Based on merit and requirement successful candidates will be placed in the pay scale of Rs.11225 -4%- 17250 for one-year training. These candidates will be absorbed after successful completion of training as Engineer / Officer in the pay scale of Rs.12000 -4%- 17500. The pay scales are due for revision with effect from 01.01. 2007.

Power Grid Hiring 118 Executive Trainees

Power Grid will be recruiting around 118 Executive Trainees under various streams like Electrical, Civil, IT and HR. There are reservations according to the regular norms. The age limit is 28 years as of January 7, 2009. The technical posts require a BTech/BE in their respective disciples. While HR candidates need a PG/MBA in HR.

The selection process consist of written test, interview and group discussion. The written test consists of two sections- 120 questions of Technical Questions and 50 questions on Aptitude. There are 18 centers across India for written test.

All candidates need to apply online. All candidates expect SC/ST need to pay the exam fee of Rs.400 through SBI bank. The online application will be available from December 27, 2008. And the last date of online application is January 7, 2009. Last date to receive hard copy application is January 17, 2009. Admit Cards will available from February 6, 2009. And the written test will be on February 22, 2009.
